Stylistic Approach

Pop Art

One of the styles that I will be looking at for the look of my images is pop art. Pop art was an art movement that started in the 1950’s witch drew inspiration from popular and commercial culture such as advertising, film and music. Pop art originally began as a rebellion against the more dominant styles of art and culture. Some of the important figures being Andy Warhol, Peter Blake and Richard Hamilton.

Stylistic Approach

Posterization

Posterization is where an images colours are reduced to block colours, resulting in no smooth gradients in the frame. Posterization is usually done in editing with a program such as Photoshop. Like the namesake Posterization are usually done to create posters.

I am looking at Posterization as one of my ideas involve making my image look like a poster or an image that would be suitable for printing in a magazine.

This is an example of the effects of Posterization, the right side has been Posterized with a value of 10 layers.

Stylist Approach – Cinematic

A cinematic approach is where a photograph tries to replicate a scene from a film, this is done usually to make the image more atmospheric and impactful. Lighting and depth of field is important to make an image more cinematic as they both determine what the viewer can see in the image, like the images below not much is in focus with the images focusing on one point usually being the person.

I have looked at this style of image as I think that shooting and editing an image in this style could create a unique looking image as household/food products are not normally shot in this style.
